| Villa Set To Sign New Contract
Valencia striker David Villa is set to put pen to paper today on a new contract which will keep him at the Mestalla until 2014, ending any speculation of a move to Real Madrid or Chelsea this summer...
With the new season just days away now it looks as though David Villa is set to sign a new contract with Valencia which will tie him to the club until 2014.
The Spanish striker has been the subject of more than one bid from Real Madrid this summer but after Valencia rejected the last offer of €40 million it looks as though the matter will finally be bought to a halt this evening. It is believed that the Asturian player will appear at a press conference at 18.00 today along with president Vicente Soriano to confirm the signing.
Speaking on his way out of a meeting with Soriano and vice president Fenando Gomez Villa’s agent Luis Tamargo said that the discussions had revolved around ‘the enlargement and improvement of the contract… not a move to another club.’
This will no doubt be a huge confidence booster for Valencia manager Unai Emery who at points this summer must have feared he would be starting the new season without two of his key players. Both David Villa and David Silva have been rumoured to be moving from the club but with the close of the transfer window approaching any such move seems unlikely.
With Villa absent from discussions today his agent spoke on his behalf, saying, “David Villa is a player of Valencia and he has never spoken of any desire to abandon the Mestalla.”
As far as Real Madrid go it will be the second kick in the teeth in the space of a day as they have also seen an approach for Villarreal midfielder Santi Cazorla turned down. He, too, has signed a new deal at his club. | |
