Germany women’s international and Olympic bronze medallist Linda Bresonik made the draw for the DFB German Cup second round live on national TV on Sunday evening, handing Bayern and their fans an exciting home tie against Bavarian rivals 1. FC Nürnberg.
The match, to be played on 23 or 24 September at the Allianz Arena, is certain to draw a 69,000 full house to the Munich stadium. A capacity crowd attended the all-Bavaria league derby in the state capital last season, ending in a comfortable 3-0 victory for the eventual champions against the side relegated to the second division at the end of the campaign. The return in Nuremberg ended 1-1.
Stats in Bayern’s favour
The clubs have met seven times in the Cup, most recently five years ago in the second round on 28 October at the Olympic stadium, Bayern ultimately winning on penalties. The men from Nuremberg’s solitary victory came way back in 1969-70, a 2-1 triumph to earn a place in the last four.
The German Football Association (DFB) will announce the final date and kick-off time for the tie in the coming days.
