Carling Cup Pits Spurs Against NewcastleThe draw for the third round of the Carling Cup has been made with a number of all Premier League ties to whet the appetite.
Holders Tottenham, who beat Chelsea in the final earlier this year to lift the trophy, face a potentially tricky tie away to Newcastle who earned their spot in the third round after beating Coventry 3-2 in midweek.
Chelsea, last year’s beaten finalists, also face Premier League opposition with Big Phil Scolari taking his squad to Fratton Park to face Portsmouth, the current FA Cup holders.
Other all Premier League ties include: Blackburn taking on Everton and Manchester United hosting Gareth Southgate’s Middlesbrough.
There are several more ties to catch the eye which include Sheffield United taking on Arsenal at the Emirates, Aston Villa playing QPR and Roy Keane’s Sunderland taking on Northampton.
