Chelsea's Essien Fears

Chelsea are anxiously waiting for news on influential midfielder Michael Essien’s status after the Ghanaian picked up an injury playing for The Black Stars on Friday.

The 25-year-old midfielder limped out of Ghana’s game against Libya early on in the World Cup qualifier, in which Libya ran out eventual 1-0 winners.

The Ghanaian team doctors have indicated that Essien will be out for up to four weeks, meaning he would miss the vital Premier League clash with Manchester United on 21st September.

Essien has proved vital to the Chelsea midfield in the last year or so, and with other defensive midfielder Claude Makelele now at Paris St Germain, Essien is now first choice for the defensive midfield role.

Chelsea face Manchester City next Saturday, and Essien is almost certainly unavailable for that game, although he does have high hopes of a speedy recovery.

Speaking to Skysports, Essien said, “My injury? It is serious but I can be ready again soon.”

The Chelsea medical team will assess the damage to the player themselves before giving a final decision on how long the midfielder will be sidelined for.

Essien was signed by then Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho back in 2005, and has played 92 league games for the club.

Chelsea r nothin without this guy

Essien is simply the World's best DM now n he is a machine that never gets tired
they even field him sometimes as a RB or even CB , who wouldnt like 2 have such a player on his team , i envy Chelsea 4 him really

If his injury is serious then Chelsea will face huge problems cause they have 2 fac Man city then Man utd in the EPL the next comin 2 weeks , so Essien will be very vital in these big clashes.

Lol, he's important but Chelsea have more than capable replacements for him.

Obi Mikel will slot in for him, or is he also out:D?

Ess faces six-month KO

MICHAEL ESSIEN could be ruled out for SIX MONTHS with a cruciate ligament injury.

SunSport has learnt the Chelsea midfielder, who was injured playing for Ghana against Libya on Friday, may have to go under the knife.

A Blues insider revealed: “After undergoing an examination, Michael’s injury seems to be a lot worse than previously thought. He may have to have an operation.”

The player’s agent Fabien Piveteau said: “Unfortunately it’s not good news.

“I am afraid it’s a big problem. A big problem.

“He’s taken a bad blow to the knee. I don’t know exact details but I think it’s not good.

“I don’t know what will happen. It’s now two or three times that he has taken blows to his knee.”

Essien, 25, missed Chelsea’s opener against Portsmouth due to injury but came back to face Wigan and Spurs.

A couple of days ago he appeared upbeat about his current problem, saying he would be out for a few weeks.

Now it seems the damage is far more serious — and that is a massive blow for Blues boss Big Phil Scolari.
